beauty: January empties.

Recently my lovely friends Lisa & Kaarin of the Pop Fashion Podcast (go listen!) were discussing the concept of 'empties' of beauty products, which is apparently a big thing on Instagram. I recently finished up a few products that I really love, so I thought I'd share those. And bonus, they're all cruelty free!

Burt's Bees Renewal Firming Night Cream / $14 at Target
It occurred to me a while ago that since I'm creeping up on age 30, I should probably start being proactive about my skincare in terms of 'firming' products. Anti-aging principles aside, I absolutely love this cream—it's super moisturizing without being too heavy and makes my skin feel great. And it lasts a long time!

Burt's Bees Renewal Refining Cleanser / $4.50 at Target
Are you sensing a theme here? I've been gradually switching all my skincare products over to cruelty free options, and I can't remember what made me try this one, but I just bought a second bottle of it because I love it so much (also, talk about bang for your buck).

Pixi Glow Tonic / $15 at Target
I'm pretty sure I've talked about the Pixi Glow Tonic before since I just bought my fourth (!) bottle, but this stuff is amazing. I use it in the evening before the night cream and it feels so refreshing—and it's really evened out my complexion. Bonus points for pretty packaging.

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara (Travel Size) / $11 at Urban Decay
I've taken to buying only travel size mascaras because a) I'm certainly not going to go through a whole regular size tube in the recommended three month usage period, and b) much cheaper way to try new mascaras! I sadly just had to retire this one but I really loved it, and will definitely be purchasing it again (just bought a new ELF one to try, so depending on how that works out!). Mascara is one of those things I'm not super picky about, so the fact that I used this one on a daily basis (for honestly probably longer than I should have) says a lot.

What are your beauty empties this month?

cat collar.

This is the dress that broke my attempt at a shopping freeze last month. I hadn't shopped at ModCloth since they were acquired by Walmart (because oh the disappointment) but when I saw they had a Miss Patina dress on sale for $27, with the perfect silhouette, and a cat collar, I couldn't resist.

What I'm wearing:
Dress: Miss Patina via ModCloth (sold out)
Tights: Target
Shoes: Wanted via DSW
Necklace: gift

How cute is this dress though?! I got a ton of compliments on it when I wore it to work (and a few comments that it was perfect for me), which is always nice. Honestly the quality is much better than I expected, and the fabric is really thick which is perfect for winter. Well worth suspending my shopping freeze for (it went downhill from there).

i want to believe.

This is probably one of the most 90s grunge inspired outfits I've ever worn. Prepare yourself.

What I'm wearing:
Flannel: Uniqlo
T-Shirt: 6dollarshirts
Skirt: Express, super old
Tights: Target
Boots: Amazon
Necklace: Off on a Tangent
Pin: Mik's Press / gift

Shoutout to District of Chic for finding this amazing X-Files shirt and tweeting it to me! I decided to capitalize on the 90s-ness and add my favorite plaid flannel and these amazing new boots. I've been wanting some nice black lace up, combat-style boots (since seeing District of Chic's post here, actually) and I found these on Amazon for $30! They have a super warm lining and they're fairly comfortable, so I was quite happy with the price. They also look pretty badass.

I wore this to brunch with my friend Katie of Meekly Yours and she gave me this awesome pin—I had to add it to my outfit.
