casual cosplay: Hotaru Tomoe/Sailor Saturn

I thought it'd be fun to try a casual cosplay of Hotaru Tomoe (later Sailor Saturn) from Sailor Saturn, since we're stuck in quarantine and I happened to have some Overtone Purple for Black Hair hair dye!

What I'm wearing:

Turtleneck: H&M

Skirt: Express, old

Tights: Target

Boots: Target

Brooch: vintage

I added the brooch because it reminds me a bit of the crystal in her Sailor Guardian uniform:

Overall I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. Who should I do next?!

Clearly I've been on a Sailor Moon inspired kick lately. For this outfit I kept it pretty casual, with some Sailor Moon inspired accessories, and the Colourpop 'Pretty Guardian' palette for my makeup.

beauty: colourpop sailor moon collection

This is long overdue, but here is my review of Colourpop's Sailor Moon collection that debuted in February! I purchased the shadow palette, lipstick sets, and the blushes—I didn't get the glitters because I'm not a big glitter fan. I'm glad I bought everything right when it launched, because unfortunately everything is still sold out!

rose gold.

I randomly got the idea to do a rose gold centric outfit a week or so ago, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

The rose gold trend has cooled a bit, but I still think it's a great color that goes well with black and burgundy in particular.

Almost allll of this outfit is secondhand! I was pretty excited when I realized that. For the past few months I've been trying to only buy secondhand in order to be more deliberate about what I put in my closet (and to make myself less susceptible to all of these panicked retail sales happening). It was really windy when we took these photos, but we got some good photos of the skirt swishing around.

Look, I'm wearing a tulle skirt and boots! I am still deserving of this blog's name! Also, if it isn't a pandemic a good time to wear a shirt that says, "hell is other people," when is?

This is my new favorite novelty print dress.

Cats? Check. Books? Check. Peter pan collar? Check. And it was on sale, so I had to buy it. No regrets, because I love this dress. And these shoes, which go with everything and make me feel tall without the foot pain.

modern sailor mercury.

This outfit is heavily inspired by Sailor Mercury/Ami Mizuno from Sailor Moon, in both color and accessories.

I got this little Sailor Mercury locket from one of those little machines at Katuscon (yep, new level of nerd has been achieved) and decided to build a subtle-y inspired outfit around it.

Ami is the character I probably relate to most, because she's a lot like I was in high school: very focused on school and reasonable. Looking at a lot of the outfits in Sailor Moon, they're actually fairly applicable to current style. Here's a good recap of Ami's best outfits.
