This past Tuesday was the first day of autumn, and it's also Sea Otter Awareness Week!
Photos by my husband.
What I'm wearing:
T-shirt: J. Crew, old
Skirt: Seamwork Jenna in cotton from JoAnn Fabrics
Jacket: Old Navy
Shoes: Madewell
Necklace: Anthropologie, gift
This skirt is technically a wearable muslin (a test run, if you will) and I'm glad I did a test because this pattern was a little more difficult than I expected, just in terms of the instructions and my spatial reasoning skills (haha). But I really like how it turned out and I think I'll get a good amount of wear out of it. I also think for the next one I make I'm going to size down, because there's elastic in the back waistband that gives it more stretch than I anticipated. One thing I really like about this pattern is you get the crisp look in the front waistband but don't have to do any closures because of the back waistband elastic.
Also, today's the last day of Sea Otter Awareness Week! I've become a big fan of Joey the baby sea otter, who's currently at the Vancouver Aquarium in Canada after being rescued by the Marine Mammal Rescue Center in July. They have a 24/7 live stream! It's a great de-stressor, and it's cool to see him grow up (although it's bittersweet to see him outgrow his little crib). The stream doesn't have audio (to protect the employees' and volunteers' privacy), but you can hear his little meeps in videos like this one.
Gotta enjoy the few good things of this year, right?
Stay safe, and don't forget to make your voting plan!
